Mr. Ntemoyok Mewanu Gregory<\/strong> assumed office on October 22, 2020, succeeding Mr. Ngoh Nkelle Victor. Tasked with the formidable responsibility of transforming Kumba into an El Dorado, the energetic and dynamic City Mayor embarked on a mission aligned with the vision and mission of the Head of State, His Excellency President Paul Biya, to promote decentralization for sustainable development and eventual emergence by the year 2035. The developmental mantra of the newly elected City Mayor resonated with the rallying cry, “Together let’s make K-Town Great Again.”<\/p>

Stepping into the heart of the sociopolitical mayhem plaguing the North West and South West Regions, Gregory Mewanu’s<\/strong> inaugural challenge, as emphatically articulated in his campaign speech, was to halt the phenomenon of Ghost Town in Kumba. During this period, the people of Kumba grappled with the profound repercussions of the sociopolitical crisis: houses and schools burnt down, roads destroyed, city dwellers facing perilous situations, infrastructure damaged, and a severe economic downturn.<\/p>

Undeterred by the magnitude of the challenges, Mayor Gregory Mewanu<\/strong> initiated a strategic plan to address the multifaceted issues facing Kumba. Recognizing the imperative of social cohesion, he commenced with the organization of the first city-wide musical concert. This landmark event, held at BICEC junction in the heart of the city, featured prominent Cameroonian artists and successfully brought together thousands of Kumba youths, defying the prevailing crisis.<\/p>

This success set the stage for subsequent social programs, including inter-quarter football competitions, trade fairs, regular dialogues with economic operators and traders, provision of motorbikes and taxis to facilitate movement during Ghost Town days, road grading for enhanced mobility and security, reinstallation of street lights, and the restoration of community portable water. Additionally, Mayor Mewanu<\/strong> oversaw the reconstruction of the Kumba central market, resulting in a significant boost in council revenue.<\/p>

Evidently, the success of the City Mayor’s action plan is reflected in the notable increase in the two major sources of council revenue\u2014building permit fees and market store rents. Building permit fees surged from 20,530,528 CFA francs<\/strong> in 2019 to 122,267,036 CFA francs<\/strong> in 2022, while market store rents soared from 97,177,325 CFA francs<\/strong> in 2019 to 142,093,375 CFA francs<\/strong>.<\/p>

Despite the strides made in local revenue collection, Mayor Gregory Mewanu<\/strong> remains cognizant of the need for external support to fully realize his ambitious developmental agenda. Actively engaged in lobbying efforts, he seeks funds from both national and international partners to elevate Kumba to new heights. At the forefront of his current developmental agenda are projects such as the construction of ultra-modern council chambers, the Mambanda motor park, low-cost housing, transformation of major streets with paved concrete bricks, improvement of streetlights using solar panels, acquisition of two giant generators, and the construction of a meat market and cold store in Fiango, Kumba. Mayor Gregory Mewanu<\/strong> is actively pursuing a World Bank project that, if realized, promises to impart a transformative facelift to the entire city.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
