The British High Commissioner to Cameroon, Matt Woods, on Thursday , April 23, 2026 described his visit to Kumba as \u201chistoric,\u201d highlighting the town\u2019s deep-rooted connections with the United Kingdom and its evolving role as a commercial hub.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cIt\u2019s very historic. I\u2019m not sure many British High Commissioners have been here. But it\u2019s been historic in the real sense of the word because Kumba is a place which is historically very close to the UK, and we\u2019ve seen some buildings which date from the colonial periods. Kumba is also an important town when it comes to commerce,<\/em>\u201d said Mr. Woods.<\/p>

The High Commissioner paid a working visit to the municipality on Thursday, April 23, 2026, where he was warmly received by the City Mayor, Gregory Ntemoyok Mewanu. The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic and development ties between Cameroon and the United Kingdom.<\/p>

As a mark of hospitality and partnership, the City Mayor presented Mr. Woods with the official jersey of the Kumba City Football Club alongside other club-branded items, a gesture that was well received by the visiting diplomat.<\/p>

The visit featured guided tours to several key sites across the municipality, showcasing both its heritage and ongoing development. Among the locations visited were the newly constructed Kumba City Council Grandstand, the vibrant Kumba Main Market, the Government Practising School (GPS) Field, and the Nfon\u2019s Palace.<\/p>

Speaking on the significance of the visit, City Mayor Mewanu underscored its importance at a time when the city is undergoing rapid transformation.<\/p>

\u201cThe visit of the British High Commissioner is very timely as it comes at a moment when Kumba is witnessing grand transformation, be it in infrastructure, economy, or the social domain. Thanks to his visit, we can only hope for a stronger collaboration between the city of Kumba and the UK<\/em>,\u201d he stated.<\/p>

The visit is expected to pave the way for enhanced cooperation in areas such as urban development, trade, and cultural exchange, reinforcing Kumba\u2019s position as a strategic and historic town in Cameroon\u2019s Southwest Region.<\/p>
