K-Town News|

Over the years Kumba has been one of the major grooming grounds for players into the indomitable lions of Cameroon. Legendary clubs like PWD, CAMARK , SANTOS LAKERS , and SYNTRACUCAM all from the City of Kumba have fed the nation with dynamic players like Ndip Akem Victor, Tataw Eta Stephen, Pius Ndefi, Ashu Tong, Esa Pius, Nlend Simon and many others. Every summer vacation, the youths of Kumba engaged in inter-quarters football competitions. It was a time to discover talents who later excelled into clubs, both at home and abroad.

Unfortunately those were past glories of the football prowess of the famous K-Town. For more than a decade now, the football fame of the city has been on a downward spiral, especially with the disappearance of its legendary football clubs. In fact for a long time now Kumba has been forgotten with its rich football history. But hope is not all lost. A great football sponsor is born. Mr Gregory N Mewanu is the new hope

On his accession to the office of the City Mayor there was virtually no trace of an existing football club in Kumba. In reaction to the situation, the dynamic administrator is about to resurrect the long-forgotten football clubs. First Mr Gregory organized the first edition of the Kumba City Council inter-quarters football competition. That was in December 2020. Then he organized the Kumba City Football Festival in November 2021 an event towards the promotion of peace, unite, trust and love.

It was organized in two phases; with the first phase involving transporters and the second phase for the inter-quarters which involved the various football teams within the municipality. There was equally a female football tournament. Apart from reviving football in the city, the tournaments were a source of hope to the youths who could count on their talent to earn a living.  According to the City Mayor, peace is what we need to make K-Town great again, another strategy to alleviate the pangs of the persistent crisis in the region.

This tournament ended with the Kumba III Riders FC carrying the trophy with a cash prize of one million francs plus a brand new motor bike.
