Held under the theme, “Empowering the Next Generation of Peace Leaders; Nurturing Peace at the Foundation of Life,” the event marked the beginning of YPO’s mission to nurture children between the ages of three and thirteen with the values of peace, dialogue and peaceful coexistence. Mrs. Akonjock explained that, “if children are trained from an early age and thought the values of peace, there will be less conflicts in the world, and they will know how to solve conflicts peacefully.” She added that the organization hopes its efforts will contribute to reducing conflicts in Cameroon and beyond by the year 2050.

Receiving the award, the City Mayor, Greg Mewanu applauded the initiative, describing it as a timely investment in the future of the nation. “If this initiative is supported, Cameroon will go along way in solving conflicts and reducing violence”, he said, while reaffirming the Kumba City Council’s commitment to supporting programmes that promote peace and empower young people.

Following the ceremony, the young peacemakers paid a courtesy visit to the City Mayor’s office, where they delivered speeches in both English and French, calling for peace, unity and harmonious coexistence. Impressed by their confidence and inspiring messages, the City Mayor encouraged the children to remain ambassadors of peace and continue spreading the values of love, tolerance and dialogue in their schools and communities.
