SWEARING OF CITY MAYOR AND DEPUTIES

 

In the year 2020 and on the 22nd day of October, the session of the Kumba City Council to elect the City Mayor and the Deputy City Mayors held at 2p.m.

Convened by the Senior Divisional Officer for Meme following the cancellation of the election results of the maiden session by the Supreme Court, the session which was to begin at 10:00 a.m. finally began at 2p.m.

The session had as agenda.

  • Arrival and installation of Councilors
  • Arrival and installation of Party Dignitaries
  • Arrival and installation of Representative of State – SDO
  • Refrain of the National Anthem
  • Opening prayer
  • Roll Call
  • Opening statement by SDO/ Meme
  • Putting in place of Bureau (Eldest and Youngest Councilors).
  • Statement by Eldest Councilor
  • Election of City Mayor (uninominal Ballot)
  • Election of Deputy Mayors (List Ballot)
  • Closing Remarks by Eldest Councilor
  • End of Session
  • Refrain of the National Anthem

After the singing of the refrain of the National Anthem, the roll call revealed that, out of Seventy-Five (75) Councilors who make up the Electoral College, seventy-three (73) were effectively present while Two (02) were represented by proxies.

However, comments were raised as to the validity of the proxy of Mr. Njika Joseph the Chairperson admitted the proxy. The bureau having been put in place consisted of.

  1. ESEME AKWO MOSES aged Seventy-Three (73) from Kumba I Council and MISS TABI MARIE CLAIRE aged Thirty-Five (35) from Kumba III Council.

          The Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, MR. NTOU’OU NDONG CHAMBERLIN in his opening remarks stated the reasons why he convened the session; explaining that, following the cancellation of the results of the maiden session by the Supreme Court, on the 24th of September 2020, him, as the Representative of State had to convene the electorate within Thirty (30) days following the judgment. It is within this context, that, he has convened them for re – run elections.

          Thereafter, the chairperson took the floor and spelled out the modalities of the elections.

          As concerns the elections of City Mayor, there were Two (02) nominations.

  • NTEMOYOK MEWANU GREGORY and
  • NGOH NKELLE VICTOR who nominated himself and later challenged the eligibility status of MR. NTEMOYOK MEWANU GREGORY for being convicted. The Chairman rejected MR. NGOH NKELLE’s claims that MR. NTEMOYOK MEWANU GREGORY was not legible for the elections on grounds that, the house is not competent to decide on Court Judgments. MR. NGOH NKELLE then withdrew his candidature and the elections proceeded. After vote casts, MR. NTEMOYOK MEWANU GREGORY had Sixty-Four (64) votes as against Eleven (11) void votes.
  1. NTEMOYOK MEWANU GREGORY was therefore declared winner.

For the position of Deputy City Mayors, just one (01) list was nominated. The list consisting of MME. BALIKE ESUKA EPSE EBANJA VICTORINE from Kumba III Council and MR. SAKO UMANA MCMILAND from Kumba II Council.

    

After the elections the list had Seventy-Five (75) on Seventy-Five (75) votes.

Consequently, the Executive of the Kumba City Council is composed thus.
