Kumba City Mayor, Greg Mewanu Takes Hands-On Approach in HIMO Project Oversight

The City Mayor of Kumba, Gregory recently conducted a thorough site inspection of the ongoing third phase of the High Intensity Labour Approach (HIMO) project.

The HIMOproject aims at engaging local youths by employing them in the construction of a crucial drainage system spanning from Mebouka Junction to Nkamalikum.

During his visit on Monday, July 8, 2024, the Mayor implemented stringent measures to safeguard both the project’s integrity and the well-being of residents.

Central to his oversight was the enforcement of guidelines dictating the optimal distance between the drainage infrastructure and nearby houses. The Mayor personally engaged with community members, undertaking a door-to-door campaign to educate and sensitize residents about the importance of responsible construction practices around the drainage system.

By empowering residents with knowledge about sustainable urban planning, the Mayor aims to create a resilient city that can withstand environmental challenges while enhancing the quality of life for all citizens.

It should be recalled that he third phase of the HIMO project which was officially launched at the Kumba City Council on May 29, 2024, reflects a longstanding partnership between the City Council and the Ministry of Economy Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT).
