On Thursday, November 21, 2024, the City of Kumba witnessed an important gathering as City Mayor Greg Mewanu hosted a Town Hall meeting at the Kumba City Council Hall. The event, described as a “Citizen Consultation Debate,” aimed to foster dialogue between local authorities and the community, offering citizens the chance to voice their challenges and suggest ideas for the betterment of their city.

The meeting was well-attended, with quarter heads, grand councilors, councilors, representatives from community-based organizations (CBOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), local media, and other key stakeholders all in attendance.

A wide range of issues were raised during the session, with stakeholders emphasizing key challenges such as road maintenance, waste management, and the promotion of tourism. The City Mayor actively engaged with each concern, assuring the attendees that their proposals would be carefully considered. Greg Mewanu committed to prioritizing these issues, with plans for improvements already in the pipeline.

One of the most notable moments of the meeting was the Mayor’s pledge to support persons with disabilities, acknowledging their needs and emphasizing the importance of an inclusive community. The City Mayor promised to continue his efforts to ensure that all citizens, regardless of their physical abilities, are provided with equal opportunities for participation and growth.

The Town Hall meeting equally offered the City Mayor an opportunity to highlight the major achievements his administration has accomplished in recent years. From infrastructure projects to community development initiatives, Greg Mewanu presented a strong track record of progress. His accomplishments were met with overwhelming approval, with the audience rising to their feet in a heartfelt standing ovation.
