The decision follows widespread complaints from residents about the shortage of vehicles and the poor state of the existing ones.

During a meeting with transporters on Wednesday, February 19, the mayor acknowledged the dominance of motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, in the city. However, he described them as unnecessarily expensive and emphasized that vehicles provide greater comfort and safety for passengers.

Greg Mewanu further noted that the introduction of these vehicles aligns with the ongoing rehabilitation of earth roads across Kumba, aimed at facilitating smooth movement for both public and private transport.

The announcement was met with a standing ovation from transporters, who welcomed the initiative as timely and necessary.

Additionally, the City Mayor called on transporters to operate on Mondays, stressing that their presence on the roads would reinforce the peace and stability that Kumba has been witnessing in recent times.
