Kumba City Mayor Champions Synthetic Mini-Stadiums Project via Moroccan Partnership

The cooperation between Cameroon and Morocco is enriched by a new perspective through the project for constructing synthetic mini-stadiums in the city of Kumba, spearheaded by the City Mayor.

This initiative aims to promote the socioeconomic and sports integration of the city’s youth. The total cost of the project is $240,000, with 60% coming from the King of Morocco, 30% from the municipality of the Moroccan partner city, and 10% from the Kumba City Council.

During his recent trip to Morocco, the City Mayor of Kumba, Gregory Ntemoyok Mewanu, also known as Greg Mewanu, who doubles as the National Treasurer of the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon (UCCC) and CGLU Africa, seized the opportunity to strengthen the ties of this partnership, which originated in Kisumu, Kenya, in March 2020.

This alliance is part of ongoing commitments by the parties for development and decentralized cooperation, supported by the African Fund for Support to International Decentralized Cooperation (FACDI) of Territorial Collectivities.

The project is expected to strengthen cooperation and significantly contribute to local development through sustainable initiatives validated by the steering committee of the Directorate General of Territorial Collectivities (DGCT). These initiatives include education, culture, women’s and girls’ promotion, and youth socio-professional integration, among others.

Through the creation of this fund, Morocco aims to direct decentralized cooperation towards a strategic partnership with African local authorities, translating into projects and actions that improve living conditions, access to essential services, and job creation, while also fostering triangular decentralized cooperation as much as possible.
