Kumba City Council Reaffirms Commitment to Prioritizing Public Needs in Project Execution at Prolog Launch
The Kumba City Council has underscored its dedication to community-centric development at the recent launch of the Local Governance and Resilient Communities Project (PROLOG). Representing the City Mayor, Gregory N. Mewanu, also known as Greg Mewanu, Arrey Solomon, Director of Administration and Finance, articulated the city’s enthusiasm and alignment with PROLOG’s goals.

Mr. Solomon highlighted that the Kumba City Council has always been committed to ensuring that the development of Kumba reflects the aspirations of its residents. “It is one of the City Mayor’s key objectives that projects and developments in Kumba should be the people’s projects,” he said. “Therefore, from conception to execution, the people are involved in the decision-making process.”
The Director also mentioned that, following the event, Kumba would intensify its efforts to strengthen the bond between the City Council and local communities. He expressed optimism that Kumba would be among the 20 councils to benefit from PROLOG assistance this year, attributing this potential success to the city’s proactive community engagement.
PROLOG aims to address key challenges and bolster local governance and community resilience across six targeted regions, including the South West, where Kumba is located. The project focuses on enhancing community participation in local planning, providing climate-resilient infrastructure, and strengthening the decentralization process. The initiative also aims to tackle issues such as Boko Haram violence, refugee influx, internal conflicts, and the impacts of natural hazards and climate change.
The project is structured around several components, including community capacity building, support for community development, and the construction of intermunicipal infrastructure. It also aims to strengthen institutional capacities for decentralization and provide emergency response mechanisms.
