The Kumba City Council (KCC) has commenced the disbursement of compensation for residents affected by demolitions related to the Inclusive and Resilient Cities Project (PDVIR), a development initiative supported by the World Bank.

This process began on Tuesday, October 8, with the first batch of 40 locals receiving compensation.
The PDVIR project, implemented by KCC under the guidance of Cameroon’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MIHNDU), aims to enhance infrastructural development within the Kumba II subdivision. As part of this initiative, certain structures along the construction zones are being demolished to facilitate essential upgrades and improvements.
In a bid to ensure fair compensation, KCC is negotiating with affected residents on a one-on-one basis, taking into account the individual damages sustained due to the project. This effort follows a stakeholder meeting held on June 22, 2023, where local organizations were selected to receive development grants under the PDVIR framework.
As a further step in the project’s execution, the Kumba City Council officially handed over the PDVIR project to contractors on July 11, 2024. The handover, led by City Mayor Greg Mewanu, included a visit to the streets designated for rehabilitation.
The PDVIR project remains focused on enhancing the city’s infrastructure through the rehabilitation of roads and other facilities, ultimately aiming to improve the living conditions of Kumba residents.
