He spoke passionately about the lasting impact of the president’s leadership on the region’s growth, as he emphasized the transformative changes that have taken place over the past four decades.

On November 6, 2024, Kumba, located in the heart of the Meme Division, came alive as Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) Party militants gathered to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of President Paul Biya’s accession to the supreme magistracy of the Republic of Cameroon.

The celebration was marked by speeches, traditional dances, and a cake-cutting ceremony, and highlighted the monumental progress the region has experienced under President Biya’s leadership.

“It’s very difficult to enumerate the achievements Kumba in particular, and Meme in general, have benefitted from during the 42 years of our President being in power,” City Mayor Mewanu remarked. “The list is simply too long. Forty-two years is not 42 days, and many of these developments were realized even before we assumed office.”

He further reflected on the remarkable improvements to infrastructure that have rejuvenated the local economy, particularly the once-dreaded road between Kumba and Buea. “Do not forget, there was a time we had a nightmare in leaving Buea to Kumba,” Greg Mewanu noted. “But for some years now, the nightmare has been a thing of the past. Kumba was losing its economic importance, but with the road’s rehabilitation, we have seen the town regain its vibrancy. Similar developments have continued and will keep shaping our present and future.”
